A Watershed Moment for HotHouse
For nearly three decades, Albury Wodonga’s intrepid performance company has made ingenious, nationally significant theatre. HotHouse’s adventure-filled story is one of community, inspirational creativity and tenacious survival as one of Australia’s few remaining regional theatre companies.
In 2026, HotHouse finds itself at a watershed moment. Market shifts, nationwide challenges to arts companies in the post-Covid era and recent local Council budget cuts mean that we must explore new directions to secure the future of HotHouse. By acting decisively now, we seek to build a more robust pathway toward - and well beyond – HotHouse’s 30th Birthday in 2027.
Our future will be determined by our readiness to change and adapt; we see this crossroads is both an opportunity and a challenge. If there is to be a purposeful future for HotHouse, we urgently need to strengthen our financial position and demonstrate the strength of community support for the company. We need to remind the world of HotHouse’s extraordinary impact over 30 years and what’s at stake right now. Because if we lose HotHouse now, we’ll never get it back.
Right now, we’re exploring potential new creative, commercial and business directions and collaborations for HotHouse and reassessing our relationship with our home of 30 years, the Butter Factory Theatre and beyond.
If you’re reading this, you care that live theatre flourishes in regional Australia and that Albury Wodonga’s HotHouse Theatre continues to have a nationally significant creative impact. We now invite you to go a step further and get involved in securing the future of YOUR HotHouse Theatre in this Watershed Moment.
We’d love to hear from you!
